2011…what a year…

2011 was such a good year. I’m not sure where to start…maybe some of my highlights I guess, going to Nashville Tennessee and gigging out there was amazing. I went for a few weeks and more than anything, loved meeting some amazing people and musicians and just loved soaking up the Nashville vibe. I don’t consider myself a country artist, but I have always been a big fan of the music, maybe this shines through in some of my songs. I went to some of the best music venues in Nashville including the Station Inn, which is where I met Vince Gill, wow. I played in a really cool town called Leipers Folk (dukes of hazard area lol) just outside down-town Nashville, it was such a hot day so the guitars kept going massively out of tune lol. It was such a good day though, and I’m so happy I got to play gigs in Nashville, awesome.
Here I am with the general lee, woo woo and warming up at the gig in leipers folk…using their house vintage Gibson J45…awesome.

I also went to the Coachella festival In LA which was amazing. Sooooo many wkd bands played last year, so I’m so glad that’s the year I went. I recently visited New York for Christmas and again, what a cool music vibe. I’m sure New York is most famous for is Jazz, which I did indulge myself in, finding myself in some really cool old school jazz bars, but there’s also a really edgy music scene too. I was really excited to play a couple of the “punky” venues. I feel so lucky that a lot of my time in 2011 was flying to America playing gigs, does it get much better than that…for a musician anyway.

I also started working with a new band. I do love doing solo acoustic gigs on my own, but not as much a playing with an amazing live band, nothing quite tops it… I feel I should let you know who they are lol. We have the amazing Kyle Dix on lead guitar, watch out for his solos, they’re killer ;) oh and his stage moves, I’m not saying anything, you will have to come check it out for yourself!! Dhil Toofany is on bass, he is an amazing musician and I’m so happy with the sound that he bring to the band. He’s got this whole synth muse vibe going on, I love it, he is a very cool dude!!! Last but most certainly not least, Mr Daryl Stewart, who has been with us from day 1, what a hero haha!!! The best drummer I know, what would we do without him…erm get a Mac and some loops I guess haha!! Only joking dazza, he is always the star of the shows and brings such energy to the live gigs!!! So we have a good few gigs together now, and I’m loving the on stage sound, can’t wait to get recording new tracks in the studio next year!! And of course, giiiiiiiiiiiiiiig.

As my previous post talks about being in Dave Vitty’s book, there isn’t much for me to say on that. Other than, thank you Dave!! Do go out and get this book, it’s both funny and enlightening lol!! But in all seriousness, I’m dead happy for my music to be spoken about so nicely, it’s a massive pat on the back and put a big smile on my face!!
So 2011 brought, a new band with wkd gigs, loads more songs I have been working on ready to showcase at all the upcoming gigs, first book mention and several gigs in the states. Naturally I want to top this and make 2012 even better. So here’s what’s going to happen…More recordings of new material (so excited about this) gigs at some truly amazing venues, both live and promo videos (this will be a first, have no idea what my acting skills are like…or the bands lol) and that’s just in the next few months, whaaay!!

Thank you so much to everyone who has become a fan on facebook, it’s doubled in the last few months, so this is amazing. Thank you for everyone who has bought my EP at my gigs or from iTunes. This year I am promoting the new single ‘little psycho’…more on that very soon.

Really hope to see you all at a gig soon, let me know if I’m not playing anywhere near your local area and ill see what I can do.

Don’t forget I’m on twitter www.twitter.com/awyke and those of you that are not on facebook already (who isn’t these days ) you can follow me on www.facebook.com/amywyke

I’m in a book!!!

Today is the day I am in my first book, kind of lol!! Radio 1′s comedy Dave has been up and down the country promoting his new book. He talks about myself and the tour we went on last year together. Here’s what he has to say…

“We even had a couple of support acts, which in hindsight, provided the main bulk of the entertainment! I mean, we were charging about £15 a ticket, so we had to give some kind of value. Amy Wyke, an angsty singer/songwriter who had far greater claim to being a musician than either Dom or I, was our fabulous opening act. She was lovely and a genuinely talented girl. It was a bit weird because she wasn’t a joke act. I think she was quite happy to ride out radio 1 publicity bandwagon – for all the good it did us – but I’m sure she must have felt that opening for two musical dickheads, Dom and I, was a tad humiliating and very much beneath her. Either way, she was good fun and we had a laugh”.

Thank yoooou Dave Vitty for the great write up!! Here is where you can buy his book, and you totally should beacuse it’s brilliant!!!
